The Schulich School of Law is proud to announce a new prize, the Roman Elster Innovation Award in Intellectual Property. Created through a $75,000 gift from Rina Elster Pantalony (LLB‘88), the prize is intended for a student who has a special interest in intellectual property and who intends to leverage this interest to create business opportunities. The prize has a value of approximately $3,500 per year.

This award is in honour of Pantalony’s father, Roman Elster, a self-made and successful businessman who immigrated to Canada in 1951. Born in Poland, and Jewish, he survived the Second World War on his sense of judgement, ingenuity and fearlessness. While living in a displaced persons camp in Austria he completed his education in science and industry. On his arrival to Canada, Elster went on to invest in business opportunities that were based on innovation and technological development.
