What is Experiential Learning?
Experiential Learning (EL) is the unique opportunity for students to take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to real-world experiences. At Dalhousie, experiential learning can take many forms, including:
- service learning and community-based projects
- in-class simulation
- live performances
- field courses
- study abroad programs
- case competitions and hackathons
When students participate in experiential learning opportunities, they return to campus with fresh perspectives, new-found confidence and renewed commitment to their studies. They gain a deeper understanding, a broader skillset, and a clear direction for their post-grad life and careers.
Experiential Learning in action
Dalhousie believes in offering hands-on, collaborative education. All students have access to experiential learning opportunities and nearly 90% are taking advantage of it. Dal students share how EL has made an impact on their academic career.
A new outdoor learning space provides opportunities for science students
The Dalhousie Outdoor Ecolab will be home to a collection of native plants, geological rock specimens, trees and Indigenous learning. It will incorporate curriculum in biology, earth sciences, environmental science.
