Ernst & Young has named co-founder and executive chair of DHX Media Ltd. Michael Donovan (BA’74, LLB’77, LLD’04) Atlantic Canada’s entrepreneur of the year. The company highlighted Donovan’s creativity and entrepreneurial knack in the face of changing business conditions for film and television production in Nova Scotia.

Despite local challenges, Donovan has turned his Halifax-based company into a booming international children’s entertainment firm. The company’s profits rose 150 percent last year.

The Nova Scotian film executive accepted the award at a ceremony in St. John’s, NL on Thursday, Oct. 8. Donovan’s list of prestigious awards also includes an Academy Award for his work on Michael Moore’s 2002 documentary, Bowling for Columbine.
