Innovation in Buildings – Architectural and Engineering Design Solutions
Faculty members Professor Brian Lilley and Dr. Lukas Swan (MASc’06, PhD’10) will present on their experience with cutting edge building design in both disciplines.

Professor Brian Lilley is a member of the Dalhousie University Faculty of Architecture and Planning. His experience is across a range of design strategies and appropriate technologies concerned with the best fit between human activity and ecological responsiveness, and his specialties include integrated design and community engagement. Prior to joining Dalhousie Brian was a partner of the internationally recognized German design firm Sauerbruch Hutton.

Dr. Lukas Swan (MASc’06, PhD’10) is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University. His research interests are sustainable and efficient electricity generation, storage, and conversion mechanisms, with the intention of displacing conventional fossil fuel use. Past efforts include 10 years of electric vehicle R&D as a consultant to the automotive sector, development of commercial wind energy generation projects in Nova Scotia (800 kW), and detailed building energy modeling of the Canadian residential sector. He is the past president of the Canadian Chapter of the International Building Performance Simulation Association.
