We are very excited to welcome all Dalhousie School of Dental Hygiene alumni to a very special event introducing Dr. Leigha Rock, the new Director of the School of Dental Hygiene. Please join us on Thursday, November 28, 2019 to meet Dr. Rock and help welcome her to the Faculty! As a part of this event, Dr. Rock will be presenting a complimentary 1 hour CE (1 CE credit hour).

CE Description: Dr. Leigha Rock will summarize current standards of care with respect to oral cancer screening and management. She will also highlight ongoing research to improve the early detection and management of high-risk oral premalignant lesions.

Biography, Dr. Leigh Rock: 

Dr. Rock completed her Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 1990 from the College of New Caledonia, in British Columbia. She completed a Bachelor of Dental Sciences from the University of British Columbia in 2014. She then went on to complete undergraduate and graduate-level courses in molecular biology and biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. She completed a Ph.D. in Craniofacial Science from the University of British Columbia in 2018, and then went on to complete a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cancer Control Research and Integrative Oncology at BC Cancer.

In addition to serving in her role as Director of the School of Dental Hygiene, Dr. Rock is also the Associate Director of the Atlantic Division of the Canadian Oral Cancer Prevention Program, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, and a Scientist with the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute. 
Her research focuses on the search for novel biomarkers to predict the malignant transformation of oral precancerous lesions.
