Dal alumni on list of 100 powerful women in Canada
Dalhousie alumni were recognized as Canada’s Most Powerful Women – Top 100 in 2017 by Women’s Executive Network. List includes Sara Austin (BA’98), Christine Cooper (MBA’99), Sandy Sharman (MBA’03), Caroline Zayid (LLB’88, BA’85, BSc’82) and Maike van Niekerk (BScN’17), plus Ulrike Bahr-Gedalia.
An influential Hispanic Canadian of 2017
Writer, scientist, entrepreneur and volunteer, Francisco Ucan-Marin (MSc’04) was one of TD Bank’s “10 most influential Hispanic Canadians” for 2017.
Kathryn Sullivan recognized in Time Firsts series
Dr. Kathryn Sullivan (PhD’78, LLD’85) was included in Time Firsts as the first American woman to walk in space. Sullivan has worked at NASA and the NOAA.

Martin Greenwood (BSc’00, MBA’04) is CEO of PhotoDynamic Inc., which will test its oral plaque-fighting system at a prestigious research facility in Boston.
Appili Therapeutics granted funding from U.S. Defence Department
Kevin Sullivan (BSc (Microbiology and Immunology)’96) is CEO of Appili Therapeutics Inc. The company has received a U.S. Defence Department grant to pursue testing of a drug-resistant bacteria.
Four alumni among Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40
Dr. Melanie Noel (PhD (Psychology)’13), Liz Scarratt (BSc’99), Mark Erickson (BEDS’09, MArch’11) and Matthew Kennedy (BEDS’09, MArch’13) are recognized for their achievements in scientific research, university fundraising, and urban design and architecture.

Alumni win prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
Allison Chua (BEng’11, MASc’14) and Timothy Disher (BSc’11, BScN’14) will receive $50,000 annually for three years to support their doctoral research projects, focused on optimizing autonomous underwater vehicles and assessing single family room care in Canadian NICUs, respectively.
