An accomplished lawyer and devoted community advocate, Candace Thomas is set to become chair of Dalhousie University’s Board of Governors on July 1.

Dalhousie’s Ignite dinner brought more than 1,200 alumni, friends, donors and community members to the Halifax Convention Centre to kick off the university’s third century with a celebration of creativity and inspiration in all its forms — from the scientist’s lab to the performing artist’s stage.

This year the Dalhousie’s Board of Governors’ Award was presented to five students, three of which will be graduating and joining the Dalhousie alumni family this year. Dr. Peter Allen (BEng (NSTC)’75, PhD (TUNS)’84) and Dr. William Howard Feindel (MSc’42) were inducted into the Discovery Centre’s Science Hall of Fame at the 15th Annual Discovery Awards. Dr. Jordan Kyriakidis (BSc’93, MSc’95) and Dr. Travis McDonough (BScK’94) were among the Discovery Awards finalists.

From October 11 to 15, nearly 6,000 alumni, students, faculty and staff members came together to celebrate Homecoming at Dalhousie.

On October 12, the Dalhousie community came together to celebrate the 2017 Dalhousie Alumni Award recipients, recognized for their impressive achievements and the many and diverse ways they contribute to the university and to society.
