Kathryn Sullivan (PhD (Geology)’74, LLD’85) has been nominated as the next head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) by United States President Barack Obama. Sullivan was the first American woman to walk in space (1984) and one of the first women appointed to the NASA astronaut group (1978).
