Anne & Gilbert

This December, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, ON will feature a musical with deep East Coast roots and ties to Dal.

Anne & Gilbert: The Musical is the story of Anne of Green Gables, grown up and finding her way in the world of teaching and love.

The musical features Ellen Denny (BA (Theatre)’12) as Anne, a role in which she has starred for the past two seasons at The Guild Theatre in Charlottetown, PE.

Dr. Nancy White (BA’67, LLD’13), one of the writers of Anne & Gilbert, studied English and later earned an honourary degree from Dal.

Parts of the play are set at Dal, which original author Lucy Maud Montgomery referred to as “Redmond.” Montgomery herself studied English literature at Dalhousie in the 1890s in the midst of her teaching career.

The musical will play at the National Arts Centre, which is run by President and CEO Dr. Peter Herrndorf (LLB’65, LLD’00), from December 1-19, 2015.
