Moncton Hospital names oncology clinic after Dr. Rubin
The Moncton Hospital has recently named its oncology clinic after Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine alumnus Dr. Sheldon Rubin (MD’69).
Dr. Rubin worked as a hematologist and oncologist at the Moncton Hospital for 41 years before his retirement. He was surprised with the news of the clinic’s naming at his retirement ceremony, attended by over 200.
As Moncton’s first hematologist, Dr. Rubin cared for thousands of patients suffering from cancers and blood disorders throughout his career.
Under Dr. Rubin’s watch, the oncology clinic grew from having one oncologist to six, with today’s clinic boasting a 30-bed cancer ward. He is also credited with many of New Brunswick’s cancer treatment advances.
New Brunswick Health Minister Victor Boudreau called Dr. Rubin “well respected” and said, “it is only appropriate to name the facility after him since Dr. Rubin played such a key role in establishing it.”
“It has always been about the patients with him,” said Horizon Health Network board chairman David Ferguson in an interview with Moncton Times – Transcript.
Dr. Rubin humbly accepted the honour, praising his colleagues for their contributions and citing his patients’ successes as his greatest happiness.
