Julie van der Hoop (BSc (Marine Biology and Oceanography)’10) was among the ten MIT students who joined officials from around the world in Geneva, Switzerland from January 13 to 18  negotiating global controls on mercury. The goal of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for this fifth and final meeting was to finalize a legally-binding global treaty on mercury.
