Faten Alshazly (BCSc'99)

When Her Excellency Sharon Johnston, the Governor General’s wife, was impressed by a creative presentation on mental health she attended this spring, she wanted to know who was responsible behind the scenes. When she discovered the team in question, Faten Alshazly (BSc (Computer Science)’99) and her colleagues at WeUsThem, Her Excellency got in touch personally.

WeUsThem is a strategic marketing and consulting firm that specializes in digital content for clients ranging from small businesses to multi-national corporations and heads of states. The firm employs a winning combination of technical and creative expertise to create visual content representing an idea, brand or campaign to the general public.

Alshazly, who studied computer science at Dalhousie, is the firm’s chief creative officer. When Her Excellency Sharon Johnston travelled across the country to meet the team, Alshazly was able to show her a world map demonstrating the global impact of the firm’s work.

Last fall, Alshazly was named one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women, speaking to her impact not only in business but also in her community. Alshazly regularly gives back to others as a mentor, a board member for businesses, and a leader with Dalhousie’s Women in Technology Society. She firmly believes that her success has been built not only on her own determination but also with the help of many mentors, and she is committed to giving back to help the next generation succeed.
