Dr. Burnley (Rocky) Alan Jones (BA’74, LLB’92), one of Nova Scotia’s best-known civil rights activists, passed away on Sunday, July 28 after suffering a heart attack.

Jones was described as “a fierce champion of racial equality and justice” when named to the Order of Nova Scotia in 2010 for his contributions to the province. He also helped to establish the Black United Front of Nova Scotia and launch university programs for African-Canadians and First Nations members, notably the Transition Year program at Dalhousie.
