Battery researcher Dr. Jeff Dahn (BSc’78) is among the recipients of the first-ever Governor General’s Innovation Awards.

Dr. Dahn is a Physics and Chemistry professor at Dalhousie. He is also a Canada Research Chair and an NSERC/3M Industrial Research Chair.

Dahn’s incredible impact

Dr. Dahn has been recognized before for his transformative work in the field of lithium-ion battery technology; he has received more than 20 awards for his impact on the industry.

He made headlines in 2015 when he signed the first partnership between Tesla Motors and a Canadian university. The five-year partnership is expected to take his research to the next level.

A leader in the field

Thanks to the work of Dr. Dahn and his team – their lab is based in Dalhousie’s Dunn Building – Dal is recognized as a global leader in battery technology.

He and five other winners will receive their awards in Ottawa at Rideau Hall on May 19.
