Jaudat Adnan (BEDS’17, MArch’19) has been selected for the 2019 Arthur Erickson Travel Study Award from the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The jury was chaired by Peter Jacobs and included Brigitte Shim, David Covo, and Barry Johns.

The Arthur Erickson Travel Study Award, established by the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, the Arthur Erickson Foundation and the Erickson Family, has been created to commemorate the ideals, work and legacy of renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson.

The Arthur Erickson Travel Study Award is offered annually to an outstanding Canadian student completing a master degree program in architecture at a Canadian university to support his/her travel study outside of Canada. The Award honours what Mr. Erickson regarded as the transformative character of cultural awareness for students of architecture and the power of travel as a means of enriching and deepening an architect’s work.

Jaudat is extending her recent MArch thesis by traveling to Karachi, Pakistan. She will continue to work with several community groups that are addressing women’s current lack of access to safe public spaces, especially in low-income neighbourhoods. This award is allowing her to expend her educational and career objectives of social advocacy through architectural design.

The award with be presented at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Presidents’ Dinner Saturday, October 26, 2019.
