Co-op leads to full-time employment

Julia Mutrie graduated from the Dalhousie Bachelor of Commerce Co-op program with a major in Finance in the spring of 2009.

Julia values the opportunities that her co-op placements provided her with, particularly her final placement with Emera in the Enterprise Risk Management Department. She watched the credit crunch unfold in the corporate world and she gained a great deal of experience that her finance classes alone could never have given her.

“My placement with Emera not only helped me determine what major I was interested in, it also gave me the opportunity to find the field of finance that interested and challenged me,” says Julia.

While the unemployment rate is increasing, the contacts and experience she gained at Emera led her to a full-time job upon graduation.

“I truly believe that without the co-op portion of my degree, I would be in a very different position than I am currently in.”
