Greg (BComm’02) and Paula (BScN’04) Feltham are the owners/operators of Islands’ Villa Lewisporte, a beautiful oceanside retreat located in central Newfoundland on the coastline of Notre Dame Bay. Lewisporte is a scenic town that overlooks the largest Marina in Atlantic Canada.

Greg and Paula grew up in Lewisporte but moved to Halifax to study at Dalhousie. After completing their degrees in commerce and nursing, life and work took them to British Columbia, but the pull of home remained strong. When the opportunity to move back to Lewisporte presented itself, the couple said they “jumped at it.”

Now running multiple vacation properties while raising their two daughters and maintaining successful careers (Paula is a public health nurse, and Greg is the Distribution Supervisor for Saputa Dairy Products), they love being able to share and promote their “hidden gem” with people near and far.

Read our Q&A with Greg and Paula to learn more about Islands’ Villa and their time as students at Dal.

What is Islands’ Villa?

Islands’ Villa itself consists of eight oceanfront suites, equipped with all the amenities and stunning ocean views. We also provide a private waterfront cottage nearby (Hideaway Chalet), and off-grid glamping pods (Glamp Central) on the edge of Woolfrey’s Pond located in Lewisporte, NL. Something for all types of travelers! Our motto is “Experience true Newfoundland hospitality!

What inspired you to start a career in the hospitality industry?

We love everything Newfoundland has to offer. From scenery, the people, and experiences such as iceberg and whale-watching tours, snowmobiling, etc. We wanted to play a part in sharing and promoting our province to others.

What advice would you give to recent grads embarking on their careers?

Being a Dal grad, you will have many opportunities at your fingertips. Choose a career that you enjoy doing every day, in a place you love living! Wherever your career takes you, be proud that you are a Dal alum, and give back when you get the chance!

What’s your favourite memory of Dal?

Greg: I thoroughly enjoyed my four years there. I met many new friends there, and we remain friends today. The campus is very nice, along with the whole city in general. Coming from a small town in Newfoundland, Halifax is a big city but still gives you that small-town feel. We still love visiting there.

Paula: I have lots of memories of Dal, but my four years of varsity hockey is definitely something that I often think back on. The Dal spirit truly showed with the fans in the stands! And many of my teammates became lifelong friends. Also, like Greg said, the whole city in general is beautiful. We absolutely loved it there!

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

We’re both active in the community. We both play hockey in the winter and softball in the summer. We are heavily involved in minor hockey as we have two girls who play in multiple different divisions. We pretty much live at the rink! During the summer we spend as much time as we can at our cabin and on the water.
