Fall fundraising campaigns feature Jill Grant Entrance Scholarship and Advanced Building Lab
The Dalhousie Fund launched its Fall ArchPlan campaign with two important projects at the forefront:
Jill Grant Entrance Scholarship
The School of Planning is celebrating the outstanding career of a greatly-admired member of our faculty family and one of the driving forces behind our success. Dr. Jill Grant has retired after almost 40 years of outstanding service to teaching and scholarship in planning!
Jill is an internationally regarded planner, who has always challenged us to critically examine the links between planning theory and practice. She is also prolific scholar and writer, whose insights on social planning have helped shape the way we create healthier and more equitable communities. But perhaps most importantly, Jill is a caring mentor, who sent her students into the workforce as critical and creative thinkers, armed with knowledge, confidence and her passion for excellence.
To honour her commitment to our profession and to her students, we’re establishing the Jill Grant Entrance Scholarship for Planning. This award will give recipients the financial breathing room to learn and excel and will make the School of Planning an more attractive option for the top students from across the country.
Advanced Building Lab
Dalhousie’s design-build philosophy sets us apart from every other school of architecture in Canada, allowing us to attract top students and faculty. That’s our competitive edge – and an edge we want to keep.
At the heart of the School’s teaching philosophy is the Advanced Building Lab and its range of digital fabrication equipment. Here, using specialized digital tools to design and build their models, students develop essential computational thinking skills.
To continue offering a leading edge education, we need leading edge equipment. That’s why this year we’re asking for contributions to the Advanced Building Lab Fund. Gifts will go directly to upgrading and acquiring new equipment.
Gifts to either of these initiatives can be made online. We thank our Alumni in advance for their support of these important projects!
