More than 50 Dal alumni and friends came together at a Halifax Chapter event at The Roy on Barrington St. on May 10 to celebrate development and the city’s evolving downtown.

“Great architecture makes for great cities,” architect Eugene Pieczonka told the crowd in his talk on current design trends in downtown Halifax. The event, sponsored by Starfish Properties, gave alumni an exclusive sneak preview of The Roy, one of Halifax’s newest premier condo buildings in the city’s core.

The Halifax Chapter seeks different and unique event locations around the city to connect local alumni in a casual, fun way, said Chapter President Lyle Quinn (BA’14), adding that many Haligonians have a natural curiosity about the large number of new buildings popping up around the peninsula. “We were able to bring together those specifically interested in the property and those who were simply interested in learning about how developments (like the Roy) are shaping the city’s future – myself included,” Quinn said.

Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres & refreshments from Pavia while mingling. The evening’s highlight, according to Quinn, was hearing from Pieczonka, who is an award winning local architect with Lydon Lynch Architects.

“He (Pieczonka) was clearly passionate about his work and it was infectious to listen to him,” said Quinn.
