Taking charge of Vancouver’s climate policy
The City of Vancouver has hired Matt Horne (BEng’00) as its new climate change policy manager. He will help lead the city towards its vision of becoming the world’s greenest city, while implementing and expanding its “The Greenest City 2020 Action Plan.”
Horne is well known in British Columbia as an environmental advocate. He previously served as associate director of the Pembina Institute, an environmental think tank, and worked on the province’s climate leadership team.
One of the goals involved in Vancouver’s quest to become the greenest city on Earth is to transition to using all of its energy from renewable energy sources by the year 2050.
“A lot of the decisions that we make today have long lasting implications,” said Horne in an interview with CBC. “It is a big challenge, a daunting challenge, but I think one that is achievable.”
One of Horne’s priorities is to ensure that the city’s climate policies remain affordable for citizens to abide by.
