Schulich School of Law alumna Karen Hudson (LLB’85) was recently appointed deputy minister of Justice for Nova Scotia.

Hudson was formerly the executive director of Nova Scotia Legal Aid, where she led the expansion of its services to better serve Nova Scotians in need of legal help.

In a press release from the provincial government, Premier Stephen McNeil said that Hudson’s experience and understanding of “the issues facing Nova Scotians in our communities, in and around our provincial justice system…will serve her, and Nova Scotians, well in this new role.”

On August 8, Hudson took over the role from fellow Dal alumna Tilly Pillay (BA’80, LLB’89), who had served as acting deputy minister of Justice since May, 2015.
