Dr. Manoj Vohra (MD'88, PGM'89)

Dr. Manoj Vohra (MD’88, PGM’89) has big plans for his tenure as president of Doctors Nova Scotia, including repairing relations between government and doctors, and rebuilding trust.

“The first initiative that we have is to really work with the government and the Nova Scotia Health Authority to be an equal partner in systemic changes to health care,” Dr. Vohra told The Chronicle Herald, after taking over the presidency earlier this month (June 2017).

Dr. Vohra has forged a long and wide-ranging medical career in Nova Scotia since graduating from Dalhousie in 1988. He’s worked in urban and rural practice, as a family physician and at a collaborative emergency centre, in primary care, and in medical management positions at Aberdeen Hospital and the Colchester East Hants Health Authority.

Dr. Vohra reiterated earlier calls by doctors for a physician recruitment and retention plan, and said it must include mentorship programs for new doctors and more residencies in rural communities. Dr. Vohra said doctors must also be allowed to practice in a community of their choice.
