Join the Halifax Chapter for an evening of fellowship and art
By Fallon Bourgeois
Over the next two weeks, alumni around the world will celebrate homecoming in their own cities and towns as part of Global Homecoming. And alumni in Halifax are no exception.
On October 19, the Halifax Chapter is hosting a reception and a guided tour as part of Responsiveness, an international light art project.
The evening will kick off with a reception at City Hall. Not only is City Hall one of the sites on the light art tour, its location at Grand Parade provides the perfect venue for alumni to gather and toast Dal’s upcoming 200th anniversary, which is just months away.
“Grand Parade was Dal’s original home until 1886, so what a great location to gather to enjoy food and fellowship while getting a sneak preview of the exciting program of events planned for 2018,” says April MacQueen (BSc’06), who volunteers with the chapter.
Following the reception, event goers can embark on a guided tour and enjoy the incredible light installations created by artists from around the world. With several art displays situated downtown, including at the Ralph M. Medjuck Building, home of Dal’s School of Architecture & Planning, the city will be alive with interesting art and lively conversation.
The tour is an opportunity to learn more about the unique exhibits and the artists behind the work. From large-scale projections to animations to light sculptures, each piece represents how the artist works with light as material, medium and metaphor. And, as the name suggests, the work will be responsive to the environment in which it is viewed.
