Sona Nanotech Ltd., co-founded by CEO Gerry Marangoni (PhD (Chemistry)’92), has forged a distribution deal with Strem Chemicals Inc. in the United States.

The Sydney-based company has developed a process to produce non-toxic gold particles, which are expected to be used for research purposes. Strem will help to commercialize the product.

Sona, along with approximately 50 other firms, is in the second round of this year’s I-3 tech startup competition, an event sponsored by Innovacorp.

Last year, the company tied for first place in 2014’s Spark Cape Breton entrepreneurship competition.
