Forbes Magazine praises Kristen van Ginhoven (BA’96) for her ‘abundance mindset’ in an article suggesting new year’s resolutions for female social entrepreneurs. van Ginhoven is the Founder and Artistic Director of WAM Theatre Company in Lenox, Mass.

For every Millennial woman who wants to make a difference, the fast-growing world of social entrepreneurship presents exciting opportunities. In 2017, the women who decided to launch organizations to develop solutions to pressing social, cultural and environmental issues across the globe found success in these many opportunities. Yet still, there are significant barriers to growth at these enterprises. One of the largest barriers know well in the social good sector is access to funding. In fact, it is often the main frustration I hear when talking to start-up entrepreneurs, especially women. I also find that women entrepreneurs are plagued with fear and scarcity mindset after decades of discrimination and inequality. I’m quite used to hearing phrases such as “there is not enough money out there for our work” or “no one wants to invest in me.” The invitation I offer to all mission-driven women is to shift to an abundance mindset and stop thinking your work is not worthy or you are not enough. If you can powerfully begin to embrace an abundance mindset within your organization and yourself, you can make 2018 a revolutionary year for social change.

In 2016, one female social entrepreneur chose to lead with an abundance mindset and it had a huge positive impact on her work. Kristen van Ginhoven is the Founder and Artistic Director of WAM Theatre Company in Lenox, Massachusetts, a theatre company the benefits women and girls. A few years ago, Van Ginhoven decided it was now or never to grow WAM into the organization she knew it could become. With a shift in how she viewed resources and a powerful connection to a grander vision, Van Ginhoven began to fearlessly ask for what her mission needed to succeed. She and her team started to generate a dynamic movement throughout WAM’s entire community.
