The Canadian Progress Club of Halifax Cornwallis has announced that it will honour nineteen Women of Excellence for their community and business contributions at a ceremony next month. Twelve of the nineteen women recognized are Dal alumnae, with a range of backgrounds and accomplishments:

 

  • The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab (MPA’87, LLB’90), Immigration Minister for Nova Scotia
  • Halifax Port Authority president and CEO Karen Oldfield (LLB’85)
  • Author Carol Bruneau (BA’77, MA’81)
  • Heather Gibson (BA’96), executive director of the Halifax Jazz Festival and of Jazz East
  • Halifax West High School’s  social studies and languages department head, as well as student government adviser, Sandra Starratt (BEd’83, MEd’92)
  • Dr. Michelle Adams (PhD’06), associate professor at Dalhousie’s School for Resource and Environmental Studies
  • Adams & Knickle Ltd. president Jane Adams Ritcey (BPE’71)
  • Dr. Jenine Arab O’Malley (DDS ’90), dentist at Halifax Dental Studio
  • Kids’ Run Club co-ordinator and Doctors Nova Scotia health promotion adviser Kerry Copeland (BSW’89)
  • Sara Wilson (BA’99), professional golfer and owner of Metro Ladies Golf Inc.
  • WeUsThem Inc. principal and chief creative officer Faten Alshazly (BScCS’99)
  • Paula Sibley-Fox (BA’00), director of strategic communications for Nova Scotia’s RCMP

Dalhousie’s vice-president of research, Dr. Martha Crago, has also been recognized.

The Halifax Progress Club will host a ceremony to honour these accomplished women on November 18 at Halifax’s World Trade and Convention Centre.
