Behind every great discovery there are many people who worked tirelessly to break boundaries and acquire new knowledge that can change the world. The Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) raises funds to support excellence in medical research at Dalhousie Medical School and its partner institutions. The Medical School’s four priority research areas are:

  • cancer
  • cardiovascular health
  • neuroscience
  • and immunity, inflammation and infectious disease.

Dalhousie researchers are at the forefront of this medical research revolution. For over a century, the Medical School its affiliated hospitals have translated discovery into medical practices used by health professionals. This has resulted in dramatically improved patient health and, in many cases, saved lives.

Supporting Research Excellence

Our vision is to build on this foundation, improving health outcomes for our Maritime communities through the power of research. Health Research Matters, the DMRF’s current campaign, will provide front-line researchers with a sustainable source of funding and sophisticated technologies and infrastructure required for vital research programs.

Two investment priorities have been identified for this $10-million campaign:

  • The DMRF Research Investment Fund — bridging and matching funds for priorities that have undergone a rigorous peer-review process. $5.0 million (endowed)
  • The DMRF Core Facilities Fund — which focuses on centralized resources and equipment. $5.0 million (endowed)
