Join fellow alumni and make a positive difference in Edmonton!
In celebration of our 200th anniversary, and the positive influence of volunteerism throughout the country, Dalhousie has partnered with United Way Alberta Capital Region for a Day of Action on May 11!
Organized Events
Edmonton Food Bank
The Edmonton Food Bank invites volunteers to join them on the morning of May 11th to help sort and pack food hampers.
The Food Bank is located at 11508, 120 Street in Edmonton, and volunteers are needed from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Please note that this is a warehouse environment, so volunteers are reminded to dress casually, and that closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Volunteers are encouraged to meet in the front lobby at 8:50 a.m.
Tools for School
In some areas of the Alberta Capital Region, the need for backpacks filled with school supplies is as high as 8 in 10 students. United Way’s Tools for School aims to reduce this barrier preventing children and youth from successful learning and participation in school.
On May 11, volunteers are invited to join us at the In Kind Exchange, 14710, 112 Ave., in Edmonton to help sort and fill backpacks with school supplies. Volunteers are invited for 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., and encouraged to meet in the front lobby at 8:55 a.m.
Do-It-Yourself
Volunteers make a vital difference to our communities every day. If you are unable to participate in one of our organized activities, we encourage you to find a way to give back in your community that is convenient and meaningful for you. Perhaps you would like to collect donations from the Edmonton Food Bank’s list of most-needed items, or collect some much-needed school supplies to fill future backpacks with Tools for Schools. However you choose to volunteer, we thank you. Don’t forget to share your activities with us at #DalUnited!
Register
Volunteers are encouraged to register online, for both all volunteer roles, including Do-It-Yourself initiatives. Please note that space for the Food Bank and Tools for Schools on-site events are limited.
Should you have any questions, please contact Stacey de Molitor at Stacey.demolitor@dal.ca or 902.494.6857.
Please note that by registering as a #DalUnited volunteer, your contact information will be shared with the United Way activity leader and host organization.
