The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security at Dalhousie University is pleased to invite you to the 4th Annual Knowledge for Prevention (K4P) Symposium: Prioritizing Children in Conflict Prevention. The virtual event will take place on 29 November 2022, between 10:00-15:00 Uruguay Time.

This year’s symposium will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, which hosts the Dallaire Institute’s Latin American Centre of Excellence for Children, Peace and Security. The symposium marks the first of its kind in Latin America and presents an opportunity for the Dallaire Institute to engage with subject matter experts from the region to advance its early warning capabilities. It will simultaneously celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Vancouver Principles, recognizing the important contributions of Latin American states.

In 2017, the Dallaire Institute was contracted by the Canadian Government to co-develop the Vancouver Principles on Peacekeeping and the Prevention of the Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers. The Vancouver Principles represent a set of 17 international political commitments to prevent the recruitment and use of children by armed forces and armed groups during UN peacekeeping operations.
