Dr. Brian Johnston is a thoracic surgeon practicing at the Saint John Regional Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick. He lived in Halifax from 1986-1998 while attending Dalhousie for undergraduate studies and medical training. He proudly lived in Bronson House in Howe Hall for two years. During his time in medical school, he represented Prince Edward Island students on the Dalhousie Medical Students’ Society Board and received a Silver D at graduation. During postgraduate surgical training, Brian was on the PARI-MP Board and sat on Faculty of Medicine committees.

After thoracic surgery training in Birmingham, England, Brian and his family settled in Rothesay. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at Dalhousie and has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate trainees since 1999. In addition to his interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, he has been extensively involved in surgical wait list management at the provincial and local levels.

As a proud Dalhousie alumnus, Brian is honoured to be part of the DAA Board of Directors and to be part of Dalhousie’s future growth.
