Julia Baak receives prestigious research awards

Julia Baak (BSc’19) has received multiple prestigious awards since completing her Honours in Environmental Sciences at Dalhousie.

For her MSc research on plastic pollution in Arctic seabirds at Acadia University, Julia was awarded the Alexander Graham Bell Canada NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship-Master’s ($17,500) and the Harry Elmore Felch Fellowship in Science ($4,500). Upon graduation, she was also awarded the Acadia Outstanding Masters Research Award in Science and the Governor General’s Gold Medal for the highest academic standing at the graduate level.

In January 2021, Julia began a PhD at McGill University to continue her research on plastic pollution in Arctic seabirds, and was awarded a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship ($150,000) and a Weston Family Award in Northern Research ($100,000). These annual awards are some of the most prestigious in the country for students pursuing a doctoral degree. Congratulations Julia!
