Excellence in University Teaching Award

Dr. Richard Gibson (BME’77) has received this year’s Prix d’excellence en enseignement (Excellence in Teaching Award) from the Université de Moncton where he has taught musical theory and composition since 1984. This teaching award is given annually to one professor from the combined three campuses as a recognition of superior pedagogical engagement during a career of substantial duration.

Gibson maintains that his studies in music at Dal gave him the competence to teach an unusually wide range of subject areas within the fields of music theory, musical composition, and music education. He is particularly grateful to Dr. Dennis Farrell of the former Dalhousie Department of Music (professor of music theory from 1968- 2005) whose passion for musical pedagogy and profound theoretical knowledge provided and continues to provide the inspiration which led to this achievement.
