Elaine McCluskey (BA’76) has won the 2023 Alistair MacLeod prize for short fiction with Rafael Has Pretty Eyes (Goose Lane Editions). This is Elaine’s sixth book of fiction, having already published two novels and four collections. Her short stories have appeared in many Canadian literary journals and anthologies, including The Dalhousie Review. Goose Lane is publishing her next novel, The Gift Child, in the fall of 2024.
