Choir! Choir! Choir!

Nobu Adilman (BA'95)In just six years, Nobu Adilman (BA (Theatre)’95) has transformed his innovative musical group from a small collection of singers to a successful business and acclaimed group performing for thousands at prestigious venues across North America.

Choir! Choir! Choir!, co-founded by Adilman and Daveed Goldman in 2011, began as a weekly drop-in singing event. Now, the choir group has grown into a favourite on Toronto’s music scene, practicing twice each week with a strong membership of local singers. They have performed at venues including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall and Toronto’s Massey Hall and Art Gallery of Ontario.

Adilman and Goldman also travel to lead corporate team-building workshops and educational sessions in schools and at cultural events.

Community spirit

From the beginning, Adilman has enjoyed uniting people through music and giving back to his community.

He grew up in Toronto and lived in Japan for a year before starting his theatre degree at Dalhousie. It was at Dal that his entertainment career was launched, through radio and music. During his time at Dal, Adilman helped grow Halifax’s collaborative artistic community.

In the past year, Choir! Choir! Choir! members have sponsored two Syrian families and Adilman and Gorman have raised funds for charities chosen by their choir members through their 25 Days of Charity! Charity! Charity! initiative.

“Choir is a lot of things, but one part that’s really important to us is to use our platform to reflect our community,” Adilman explained.

Sharing stages with renowned artists

During the summer of 2016, 1,500 Choir! Choir! Choir! members performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with Canadian-American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright.

The group organized a tribute to Cohen after his death in November, 2016, gathering 2,500 people in Toronto’s Christie Pits Park to sing a few of Cohen’s greatest hits by candlelight.

They have also performed with Tegan and Sara at the 2014 JUNO Awards and with Patti Smith at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
