Fueling fast growth through experiential learning

It may be an understatement to say that Dash Hudson has been growing rapidly. Co-founded in 2014 by entrepreneurs Thomas Rankin (MBA’04) and Tomek Niewiarowski (MCSc’13), what originally began as a men’s style app has since evolved into a visual marketing platform helping globally-leading brands and publishers like Marc Jacobs, Vogue, HBO, Hyatt and Kylie Cosmetics to share better photos and videos across all channels.

Shaping young talent

Because of this transition in focus, Thomas acknowledges that the company has had to grow organically, adapting to change and taking advantage of new opportunities as they emerge. This type of growth doesn’t happen without hard work and the support of a talented team of employees. To help power the rapid success of his company, Thomas has been a steadfast supporter of hiring co-op and internship students. He shares that by finding “smart people who want to be involved in something challenging and interesting,” he’s been able to take his initial vision for Dash Hudson as a platform that addressed an unmet need, into one that now boasts large, multi-national customers.

Low-risk, high-reward

Hiring young talent provides organizations like Dash Hudson with the opportunity to shape and nurture students, empowering them with the skills to make real impact in the world through experiential opportunities, be it locally or on a global scale.

“The nature of the business means that we give all of our staff the opportunity to learn and make mistakes,” says Thomas. Business student employees serve to support the organization and full-time staff through intense growth periods at Dash Hudson, supplementing the existing team and adding a fresh perspective to a young, developing organization. “As we move on to the next stages of Dash Hudson, engaging students will help us be prepared for our next level of growth. It’s been a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for us that’s paid-off for both the company, and the students we hire.”
