CEO Andrew Murray (BSc (Neuroscience)’10) is experiencing impressive growth with his online video-based company, Spot Interactive. The Charlottetown and Montreal company signed the Discovery Centre in Halifax as its first client; less than a year later the company’s customer base is up to 600.

Spot Interactive allows interactive functions to be added to online videos that don’t disrupt the viewing experience. While the focus has been online purchasing functions, other possibilities include social media activities, filling in forms, or downloading files – all while the video continues playing.

The initial Discovery Centre project led the company to develop a software-as-a-service product so clients can add the functionality to their own videos.

A creative sales strategy gave the company its momentum, along with the uniqueness and ease of use of the technology. This is interesting since Murray’s background is in neither technology nor sales.

While Spot Interactive’s previous growth was mainly through revenue, it has recently attracted investment funding.
