The Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise is supporting a new research partnership between scientists in Brazil and at Dalhousie’s Ocean Tracking Network. The Halifax-based institute will be overseeing the collaboration and providing funding for the expansion of the Ocean Tracking Network in Brazil, says CEO Jim Hanlon (BEng’79).

The research will be led by Dal biology professor Dr. Sara Iverson, who is also the scientific director of the Ocean Tracking Network, and Jose Henrique Muelbert, a Federal University Foundation of Rio Grande researcher. Together, they will use Nova Scotian equipment to track Brazilian aquatic animals. This data will contribute to sustainable fisheries mangement, nature tourism, and ocean research development.

Funding for the research is also being granted by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
