Cape Breton technology startups win funding
The 2015 Spark Cape Breton Innovation Challenge has awarded six local companies with funding, ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 per project.
Douglas MacLennan’s (MBA’09) mobile phone app Collegio was one of the first place winners, securing $50,000 in funding. MacLennan’s app aims to become a substitute that colleges and their students turn to instead of using paper communication.
Another Dal alumnus, Todd Mercer (BEng’14), was awarded $15,000 to put toward his own venture. Mercer’s PartyUP app facilitates event promotion through videos.
