menstrual kits
Jennifer Corson (BEDS (TUNS)’90, MArFP (TUNS)’91)
and Keith Robertson (BEDS (TUNS)’91, MArFP (TUNS)’92) have joined a global effort to help keep girls in school during their menstrual cycles. The husband-and-wife team has prepared 75 menstrual kits for an upcoming trip to Abetenim, Ghana.

In parts of Abetenim and around the world, young women spend the duration of their period in seclusion. During that time, the yougn women miss out on school and other activities. This is due to a lack of feminine hygiene products and deeply-rooted stigmas associated with menstruation.

A handmade solution

The kits were hand-sewn by residents of Halifax and Bedford. They include panties, absorbent liners, moisture barrier shields, washcloths and other hygiene products. The kits are intentionally stylish so girls can feel comfortable carrying them in public.

This is not the Corson-Robertson family’s first trip to Ghana; they built a library there in 2015 which they will add solar panels to on this visit.
