Kathryn MacLellanTheatre Nova Scotia presented the Robert Merritt Awards recognizing excellence in Nova Scotia theatre during a ceremony at Casino Nova Scotia on March 23. The annual awards honour outstanding performances, direction, design, and more. Named for late Dalhousie Theatre professor, Robert Merritt, a number of Dalhousie alumni were nominated for awards this year, with several winning the top honours. Merritt was also known as the film critic on CBC’s Information Morning.

Dalhousie alumni winners of 2015 Merritt Awards included:

Kathryn MacLellan (BPE’82) for the Mayor’s Award for Achievement in Theatre

Stephanie MacDonald (BA (Theatre)’05) for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (female)

Garrett Barker (BA (Theatre)’05) for Outstanding Lighting Design

Dorian Lang (BA (Theatre)’11) for Theatre Nova Scotia Scholarship

Dalhousie alumni nominees in various categories included Annie Valentina (BA (Theatre)’04), Genevieve Steele (BA (Theatre)’93), Matthew Peach (BA (Theatre)’13), and Cathleen McCormack (DSC’12).
