Five Nova Scotians who have made extraordinary contributions to community leadership have been invested into the Order of Nova Scotia this fall. Two of the five recipients of this prestigious honour are Dalhousie alumni.

Dr. Margaret Casey (MD’68, LLD’04) was recognized forDr. Margaret Casey (MD’68, LLD’04) her dedication to improving access to health care for families of Halifax’s North End. As a physician and tireless community advocate, she is devoted to the improvement of social determinants of health. Dr. Casey received an honourary degree from Dalhousie in 2004, in addition to her medical degree in 1968.

Louis E. Deveau (BEng (NSTC)’57, LLD’07) received the Order of Nova Scotia for his contributions to innovation and economic growth in the province. Mr. Deveau Louis E. Deveau (BEng (NSTC)’57, LLD’07)founded Acadian Seaplants Limited, a multi-national biotech manufacturing company. The company now operates major manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and employs over 350 people in eight countries as well as 700 seasonal harvesters in Canada, Maine and Ireland. Mr. Deveau also received an honourary degree from Dal in 2007, after receiving his Bachelor of Engineering in 1957.
