Dalhousie Tigers Gala posterOn Wednesday, May 6, 2015, Dalhousie will host the fifth induction ceremony for its Sport Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at the Westin Nova Scotian in conjunction with the annual Tigers Dinner and Auction.

The event includes a reception to view silent and live auction items, followed by a three-course dinner, Hall of Fame induction and live auction.

“It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to what will be an extraordinary evening paying tribute to this year’s Hall of Fame class,” says Dalhousie’s Director of Varsity Athletics, Tim Maloney. “CBC’s Bruce Rainnie will be joining us for what is sure to be a tremendously successful event both as a fundraiser for athletics, and an entertaining evening.”

The alumni inductees to the 2015 Sport Hall of Fame include:

Robert Lewington, BPEd’76 (Athlete)
A member of the Dalhousie Football team 1967-1970, “Lew” was a team captain for two years and led the Tigers to two Lobster Trap (conference) championships. The Tigers rookie of the year was also a two-time team MVP and conference all-star.

Dr. Carolyn Savoy, CPA’86 (Builder)
The Tigers women’s basketball coach for over 30 years, (1977-2009), Carolyn led her teams to 11 league and five conference championships during her career. A five-time AUS coach of the year, Carolyn holds the CIS record for most wins (858 regular season) and held a 49-game regular season winning streak from 1979-1982.

1995 CIAU Champion Men’s Soccer Team
The 1995 Dalhousie Tigers became the first (and only) Dalhousie men’s soccer team to win the Canadian University Championship, and 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of this fantastic achievement.

The Dalhousie Sport Hall of Fame is designed to recognize individuals and teams who have achieved excellence while representing Dalhousie University in athletic competition. The first induction ceremony took place in October of 2004 and since then it has become a bi-annual event for Dalhousie.
