Event Details

The UK Alumni Chapter is pleased to present its first event outside of London – a tour of the University of Oxford with Dalhousie’s Rhodes Scholars.

We are delighted that two Dal alumni – Paul Manning (BSc (Agriculture)’13) and Michael Mackley (BSc’14) who are, respectively, Dalhousie’s 87th and 88th Rhodes scholars – have graciously invited UK alumni to tour Oxford.

Paul, a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture is studying zoology, while Michael is a biology graduate studying genetics. We will literally be able to see the university from the top – atop the Tower of Magdalen College, the highest tower in Oxford. Access to this lofty venue is courtesy of Paul, a resident of Magdalen College.

Come and join us on the tour of Oxford University!

Tour Schedule

  • Travelling from London? Meet at Paddington Station at 10:30 a.m. and take the 10:43 a.m. train to Oxford (arriving at 11:50 a.m.)
  • Anyone who didn’t travel by train, meet at the Turf Tavern at 12:15 p.m. for lunch.
  • Tour of Magdalen College, including the Tower – at around 1:30 p.m.
  • Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? If making the steep climb to the top of the tower is not for you, an alternative activity will be arranged.

For those of you who want to make a day of it, Oxford has a number of events going on that day, including a Christmas Arts Market on Broad Street; New London Chamber Ensemble at Holywell Music Room at 3 p.m.; Choral Evensong at Exeter College Chapel at 6 p.m.; and a production of Wind in the Willows at North Wall Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m.

We hope you can help us kick off the festive season with this tour.
