Event Details

Last year’s Doors Open event was a massive success. Dal had over 1,400 visitors, making the Steele Oceans Sciences Building one of the top 15 venues of Doors Open in 2014. This year’s “Oceans Hall” display in Dalhousie’s Steele Ocean Sciences Building is back for Doors Open on June 6th and 7th.

The Steele building will be packed with informative and intriguing activities for all ages, including research presentations, lobster tagging, face painting, and interactive, hands-on science activities. Attractions such include the Aquatron, Canada’s leading aquatic research facility; and, the Container Bay, which house portable labs, built from shipping containers that allow researchers to explore, discover, track and predict the ocean environment in the same space, on land and sea.

Oceanography faculty are changing the perceptions and current knowledge base of our world oceans. Visitors will learn about current and fascinating oceans research conducted by Dalhousie faculty, and staff from partnering organizations – CERC, MEOPAR, and OTN.

The event coincides with UN World Oceans Day, and some activities will be focused around this theme.
