Event Details

Join us for a day trip at the Joggins Fossil Cliffs, Canada’s 15th UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, located along the Bay of Fundy in Joggins, Nova Scotia.

“The classic coastal section at Joggins, NS is of outstanding universal value. It contains an unrivaled fossil record preserved in its environmental context, which represents the finest example in the world of the terrestrial tropical environment and ecosystems of the Pennsylvanian ‘Coal Age’ of the Earth’s history.”

Dr. Martin Gibling, faculty member in Dal’s Department of Earth Sciences, and the staff of the Joggins Fossil Centre will take visitors along the shore of the Bay of Fundy to see the cliffs and share the features and history of this area.

Two hikes are available for you to choose from:

  • Group 1 – Visiting the shore located below the Joggins Fossil Institute.
  • Group 2 – Exploring the shoreline from Lower Cove back to the Joggins Fossil Institute with Dr. Martin Gibling. This hike is approximately 1.5 km and will take 2.5 to 3 hours to complete.

This event will take place rain or shine. Please note that due to the rugged nature of the beach and cliffs, they are not accessible to wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.

More information will be provided upon registration. We look forward to having you join us!
