Alumna Mary Beth Doucette (BEng’04) has been chosen as the recipient of a Vital Award at the Vital Cape Breton Excellence Awards earlier this month.

Following her graduation from Dalhousie in 2004, Doucette received an MBA in Community Economic Development (CED) from Cape Breton University.

Doucette continues to focus on the topic of her graduate research — community economic development in First Nations communities — as the Executive Director of the Purdy Crawford Chair in Aboriginal Studies.

In this role, Mary Beth promotes interest among Canada’s Aboriginal people in business studies at a post-secondary level, in addition to undertaking research specific to Aboriginal communities.

“I am flattered that the Cape Breton partnership has chosen me as the recipient of a Vital Award. I think it’s wonderful that they are making an effort to celebrate the efforts of young people across the island,” said Doucette, in an interview with Cape Breton University News.
