FOXY workshops Candice Lys, MA'09

Candice Lys, MA'09Candice Lys (MA (Health Promotion)’09) is co-founder and executive director of FOXY (Fostering Open eXpression among Youth). This unique sexual-health and leadership education program is designed for young  women across the Northwest Territories where they face a number of scary realities.

FOXY workshops focus on empowerment, peer support and the arts rather than traditional models of dos-and-don’ts. The program grew out of a research project Lys completed as part of her master’s degree at Dal.

In December of last year, FOXY was awarded the $1-million Arctic Inspiration Prize. The money will help FOXY expand into Yukon and Nunavut.

Lys and co-founder Nancy MacNeill were recently interviewed by Chatelaine magazine as part of #Project97 – a collaborative project by Rogers-owned media outlets, talking about sexual assault, abuse and harassment.
